Ivars Drulle: Our Lives Together
Opening: 13 September 2019 at 7 p.m.
The exhibition is open until 30th September 2019.
This work is about the coexistance of different cultures on the same land. For centuries Venice ruled the coastal parts of Istria (Croatia). Double-window churches is prime example of the Italian culture. I counted around 250 such churches. On the other hand, the Croatian culture can be symbolized by the thousand year use of the unique alphabet: Glagoljica. In this work names of villages with double-window churches are written using Glagoljica alphabet.
Oppressed Croats took the upper hand after the World War II and thousands of Italians had to leave. In this work one may wittness the paradoxes of history: the ones who were on the bottom, came to the top and vice versa. And the wheel oh history keeps turning.
