The exhibition includes works created during Ulrike Lienbacher’s participation in the AiR Kuberton artist residency in the fall of 2022. The artist residency has been organized by the Lapidarium Museum and Ursula Krinzinger since 2016, which is why the exhibition’s title, “Ursula’s Garden,” refers to the green area surrounding Ursula’s residence in the Istrian village of Kuberton. The exhibition features 55 photographs, supplemented by a few subtle drawings whose blank spaces create a counterpoint to the photographs of nocturnal images of plants, insects, or animal tracks recorded with an analog camera. Ulrike Lienbacher’s photographs combine documentary recording, observation, and perception of the Istrian landscape, interwoven with the artist’s aesthetic and conceptual characteristics.

Ulrike Lienbacher was born in 1963 in Oberndorf / Salzburg. She studied sculpture at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. She works with various media such as drawing, object/installation, photography and video. The starting point of her artistic exploration,
especially in her drawings, is the human body. She is primarily concerned with the tension between the regimentation and disciplining of the body in a society geared towards performance, efficiency and perfection and the possibilities of freeing oneself from this corset. She lives in Vienna and Salzburg. Her works have been shown in numerous exhibitions in various art institutions, such as: Albertina, Vienna, Brooklyn Museum, NYC,
Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna, MAK – Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Vienna, Salzburger Kunstverein, Salzburg, MARTA Herford, Musée d’art moderne et contemporain, St. Étienne, Fotomuseum Winterthur, MOCAK – Museum of Contemporary Art , Krakow, Krinzinger
Gallery, Vienna.
